Smoked

In my previous post I described the process of a Raku firing (using the Western reduction process) and so now I can show you the results of that firing.

The diversity and random nature of the finishes means that there is always a surprise when they come out of the firing process. The surfaces are tactile & variable. While the original Japanese ware had a more humble wabisabi feel, some of the western glazes have a colourful sheen and iridescence to them. The vessels have been on a journey through the fire and passed through to the other side, scarred yet transformed into something beautiful.
