Watercolour series

Lisa’s new collection has been gradually growing over the last few months. Her experimentation around layering glazes, and allowing them to ‘bleed’ into each other led to a few beautiful glaze combination discoveries.

The Water colour series consists of summer tea bowls (that in the Japanese tradition have a greater width at the top of the bowl to cool the tea quicker), plates, and cups that have a honed finish. As a collection, the patterned vessels are often combined with a simply glazed plate or bowl, creating a balance between simplicity and complexity.

The collection is inspired by the rituals of the kitchen table. We gather together around the table each night, each with our own unique differences, but similarities and common ground as we share a meal together as a family. It’s an important time of day for us to catch up and find out where each of our paths have taken us that day.

The pattern on the vessels are hand painted and individual. The continuous lines, with their branch formations, take different paths across the plates, sometimes responding to the curve of the vessel, and other times cutting through in a direct line. The forms of the vessel itself are designed to be held, cradled in the hand and made so that they will happily go in any order on the table.

This is a collection to feel at home with. One that doesn’t rely on ceremony, but instead quietly honours those moments when you can spend time at the table, with good food, and with those people important to you.
